NEESSR, Inc. is dedicated to the protection of English Springer Spaniels. The New England English Springer Spaniel Rescue is a group of volunteers that rescue stray, abandoned, relinquished or impounded English Springer Spaniels in the New England and New York areas and provides foster care, with the eventual goal of adoption. We are a non-profit 501(c)3, tax-exempt corporation. Donations are used towards medical care and vetting expenses of our rescued Springers and are always welcome.
Our primary goals are to protect English Springer Spaniels, promote spay/neuter programs to prevent unwanted litters, and educate the public about English Springer Spaniels. We also provide general breed education for prospective Springer owners, advice on how to locate responsible Springer breeders, and advice and training resources to Springer owners.
NEESSR feels very strongly that no adoptable dog should be left behind because of medical costs. We receive donations from those who adopt our dogs, as well as those who surrender their dogs. Sometimes that isn't enough to cover medical costs for a dog who needs non routine exams, treatments, and spaying/neutering. Visit our special needs dogs page or donate page if you would like to help.
English Springer Rescue America, Inc. (ESRA) is a national referral and foster care pure-bred placement organization, and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. ESRA's mission is to provide foster care to English Springers impounded by humane societies, private shelters, and animal control facilities nationwide, as well as to offer adoption referral services for those agencies. There are no paid staff, and all our members do what they do on a completely voluntary basis.
English Springers are as susceptible to impoundment as any dog. They are picked up off the streets as strays or relinquished by their owners because of a move, illness or death, financial crisis, or other troubled circumstances. Adoption referral assistance is also available to those owners who can no longer care for their Springers and must give them up for adoption. Through the compassionate efforts and commitments to help, ESRA's volunteer members have successfully placed thousands of Springers in new loving homes.
To be considered for placement in ESRA's database of prospective adopting homes, click here for the adoption application. When received, and after the approval process, we will enter you in our database of homes preliminarily to adopt available dogs. These listings include dogs in shelters and foster homes, and those being relinquished by their owners.
ESRA was founded March 25, 1998, by Jan Flagg, a Southern California resident. In the summer of 1998, ESRA's management were co-founders of the now-defunct English Springer Spaniel Rescue Coalition (ESSRC), which was an early coalition of independent rescue groups, out of which grew English Springer Spaniel Rescue nationwide as we know it today.
